The strength of sintered low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) disks was measured under dry (<2% relative humidity [RH]) and wet (98% RH) conditions, using ring-on-ring, biaxial-flexure testing in the stressing rate range of 0.002–2 MPa/s. The empirical sub-critical crack growth parameters, n and A , were calculated. The values of the parameters in the wet environment were higher than in the dry environment. It is argued that the high RH n value is more representative of material behavior. Results of fractographic examination are reported and expected lifetime and safe design stresses for LTCC are calculated.  相似文献

Inductively coupled plasma (ICP) using hydrogen-based gas chemistry has been developed to meet requirements for deep HgCdTe mesa etching and shallow CdTe passivation etching in large format HgCdTe infrared focal plane array (FPA) fabrication. Large format 2048×2048, 20-μm unit-cell short wavelength infrared (SWIR) and 2560×512, 25-μm unit-cell midwavelength infrared (MWIR) double-layer heterojunction (DLHJ) p-on-n HgCdTe FPAs fabricated using ICP processing exhibit >99% pixel operability. The HgCdTe FPAs are grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) on Si substrates with suitable buffer layers. Midwavelength infrared detectors fabricated from 4-in. MBE-grown HgCdTe/Si substrates using ICP for mesa delineation and CdTe passivation etching demonstrate measured spectral characteristics, RoA product, and quantum efficiency comparable to detectors fabricated using wet chemical processes. Mechanical samples prepared to examine physical characteristics of ICP reveal plasma with high energy and low ion angle distribution, which is necessary for fine definition, high-aspect ratio mesa etching with accurate replication of photolithographic mask dimensions.  相似文献

Serotonin (5-HT) is one of the major transmitters involved in supraspinal control of somatic sensation and nociception. The aim of the present study was to investigate if the 5-HT-induced modulation of sensory transmission in the dorsal horn could be due to regulation of neuronal responses to excitatory amino acids. Experiments were performed in an in vitro preparation of the young rat spinal cord. Responses to dorsal root stimulation (DR-EPSP) and to droplet application of N-methyl-D-aspartic acid (NMDA) and alpha-amino-2,3-dihydro-5-methyl-3-oxo-4-isoxazolepropanoic acid (AMPA) were obtained by means of intracellular recordings of dorsal horn neurons. Bath applications of 5-HT (50 microM) generally caused reductions in amplitude and integrated area of DR-EPSPs and of responses to NMDA but the responses to AMPA were unaltered. A linear correlation was found between the effects of 5-HT on the DR-EPSP and on the NMDA response measured as percentage change in amplitude (r2 = 0.45; P < or = 0.01) and integrated area (r2 = 0.77; P < or = 0.001). The NMDA receptor antagonist d-AP5 (50 microM) completely abolished NMDA responses and caused a depression of the DR-EPSP similar to that of 5-HT. The 5-HT1 receptor agonist 5-carboxamidotryptamine (5-CT; 1 microM) mimicked the depressant effects of 5-HT but had a stronger depressant action on the DR-EPSP than 5-HT. The depression of NMDA responses induced by 5-HT and 5-CT was tetrodotoxin (1 microM) resistant. It is concluded that 5-HT-induced depression of NMDA responses explains partially the depressant action of 5-HT on dorsal horn synaptic transmission activating a postsynaptic site sensitive to 5-CT. The possible activation of coadjuvant mechanisms is discussed.  相似文献

A technique for the rapid and simple generation of permutatedversions of the interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) geneis described. In this method, the human IL-1ß cDNAis twice amplified by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) andthe resulting DNA fragments are ligated in tandem. Between thetwo genes, the DNA sequence encodes a short four amino acidloop to link the native N- and C-terminal ends of the IL-1ßprotein. By using PCR amplification from this starting template,a new version of the IL-1ß cDNA was obtained thatencodes a permutated form of the IL-1ß protein wherethe new N- and C-terminal amino acids correspond to residues65 and 64 of the native IL-1ß sequence, respectively.The name ‘permutein’ is proposed to describe proteinsgenerated by this technology. The molecular profile (IL-1 receptorbinding, biologic activity and solution properties) of the IL-1permutein produced by this technology, permutein 65/64, is shownto be identical to that of native IL-1ß The approachshould be useful to define further the structural features ofthis protein that are important for its function.  相似文献

Risk factors for Kaposi's sarcoma in HIV-positive subjects in Uganda   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
BACKGROUND: Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) is associated epidemiologically with HIV infection and with human herpesvirus 8 (HHV-8 or KSHV). Both KS and HIV infection are common in Uganda. We conducted a case-control study of 458 HIV-seropositive. Ugandan adults with KS and 568 HIV-seropositive subjects without KS to examine risk factors for HIV-associated KS. METHODS: We recruited newly diagnosed adult KS cases from five hospitals in Kampala, Uganda and controls from a large referral clinic for HIV infection at Mulago Hospital. All cases and controls were counselled and tested for HIV and answered an interviewer-administered questionnaire about their home, socio-economic conditions, lifestyle and sexual behaviour before they became ill. Only HIV-seropositive subjects were included in the analysis. RESULTS: There were 295 males and 163 females with KS and 227 male and 341 female controls. Age distribution was similar but there was a higher proportion of cases (45%) than controls (29%) residing in rural regions of Uganda. KS cases were more likely than controls to have a higher level of education (X2 for trend, 4.8; P = 0.03), to have occupations associated with affluence [chi 2 for heterogeneity, 17.3 on 5 degrees of freedom (df); P = 0.004] and to come from larger settlements [adjusted odds ratio (OR) for settlements of > 1000 versus 10-99 houses, 1.8; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.1-3.0]. Cases were more likely than controls to have high household income (chi 2 for trend, 32.6; P < 0.001) and other markers of urban or rural wealth such as owning several cows (chi 2 for trend, 9.5; P = 0.002). Cases were more likely to travel away from home (adjusted OR, 1.6; 95% CI, 1.1-2.3) and more likely to have spent increasing time in contact with water (chi 2 for trend, 12.3; P < 0.001). Few indices of sexual behaviour were related to risk of KS, including reported number of sexual partners. Cases were more likely than controls to be married to one rather than several spouses (adjusted OR, 1.6; 95% CI, 1.2-2.2) and to have reported a history of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) (adjusted OR, 1.6; 95% CI, 1.2-2.3). CONCLUSIONS: Among HIV-infected subjects, KS cases are characterized by better education and greater affluence, compared with controls. Urban address, travel away from home, exposure to water, monogamous marriage and self-reported STD were also more frequent among KS cases than controls. The higher socio-economic status of persons with HIV and KS may be a marker for enhanced exposure to a possibly sexually transmitted agent, or for a delayed exposure to a childhood infection. The risk posed by exposure to water among KS cases requires further study.  相似文献

a-SiC:H alloys are promising candidates for the top junction alloy in triple-junction solar cells. In order to understand the limitations on electronic transport in the alloys, the photoconductivity and optical absorption were measured using photothermal deflection spectroscopy (PDS). Thin-film transistors have also been fabricated and studied. Taken together, the material and device measurements provide strong evidence that electron transport in the material is restricted by declining mobility in the alloys above a bandgap of approximately 1.9 eV. p-i-n devices based on the alloys have exhibited open-circuit voltages as high as 1.05 V, but the fill factors of the devices decline at these high voltages. The open-circuit voltage of the devices scales with optical bandgap, and measurements of Voc versus temperature indicate that generation-recombination controls the open-circuit voltage. Triple-junction devices containing 1.85-eV a-SiC:H and 1.45-eV SiGe:H have shown conversion efficiencies of 10.2%  相似文献
